The Moye PTO believes that Reading Counts! We put great effort and resources towards supporting your children in this reading comprehension program. Scholastic Reading Counts! encourages independent reading and enables educators to monitor progress.

In the Library, and most all of the classrooms, there are books with dots. These dots indicate a Reading Counts quiz is available and the approximate grade level of the book.
Red=First, Blue=Second, Green=Third, Orange=Fourth, Pink=Fifth, Turquoise=above 5th

The inside front cover has the Reading Counts(RC) information…title, author, RC points, grade level and lexile level(its recommended to be +/- 200 of the student’s own level). Please note: The title listed there is the way Scholastic Reading Counts! system recognizes it.

After the child has read the book, the quiz is taken on the school’s computer system as time allows. Each test is pass/fail at 70%. Points are earned in this way. To receive rewards/prizes a 70% average must be maintained. All prizes earned will be given once the child has brought their average up.

At the end of each month these points are tallied to achieve a Reading Counts Reward Level of Blue, Bronze, Silver, or Gold. The principle will announce the accomplishments. Students will receive a token prize for their level.

In addition to these levels, is the 100 point club. For every hundred points scored, the student’s name will be entered into a drawing to win a prize at the end of the year. Each prize is valued at $25 and at least 4 are given out. A 70% average quiz score must be maintained to be entered.

To encourage students to try the system, random prizes are awarded to RC test takers each quarter. All students who passed at least 1 Reading Counts quiz that quarter are eligible. This is done electronically. It only takes one test to win!

There are over 40,000 quizzes available to take tests on. Not all of these are in the Moye Library. However we have a large selection. Nearly half of all books in the library are dotted and label as a Reading Counts! book. For your reference: Reading Counts Book List

At the end of the year awards ceremony, the top point earners for each grade are recognized. Again the Average Quiz score must be at the acceptable range for recognition.
