General Meeting
March 11, 2008 – 7:00pm Library
Minutes
1. Minutes from the February meeting were presented, corrected, and reviewed. Cindy Williams motioned to approve the minutes, the motion was seconded and the minutes were approved by the membership.
2. The Treasurer’s report was presented and reviewed. Jane Stone motioned to approve the report; the motion was seconded and passed by the membership.
- After discussion about our two maturing CDs earmarked for the new sports fields, Wendy Bione moved that we renew them for one year. A vote was taken, and the motion passed.
- Committee Expense Deadline – All expenses are due in to Tammy by March 31, any ongoing activity expenses need to be turned in by April 15.
3. Next Year’s PTO
- Rights of first refusal have been offered to current committee chairs, all openings need to be filled.
- Committee chairs need to finish and return their folders.
- Auction date for next year will be November 22. We discussed the possibility of using either the Katy Cavins Center or the new conference Center. Judy Nelson moved to make a reservation for Katy Cavins for our date in November. The members voted and approved this idea.
4. Committee Reports
- Spirit Sales – Will end Friday and are going very well.
- Family Reading Night- Will be held on Thursday, March 13 from 6-8pm.
- Food Drive – Kids will be asked to bring in a canned food donation during the week of April 7-11. Donations will be given to the local food pantry.
- Spring Fling – Kelly Cooper requested one chairperson from each grade for our games.
- Smokey Bones – fundraiser will be held on May 7, from 4-8pm, and Moye will receive proceeds from the whole day. Cindy needs 10 people to volunteer to help at the event that night.
- School Supplies – Jane Becker has found a new vendor for next year’s school supplies. The new company is called School Kids and they will give us 8% of the sales profit. Orders will be taken from April 31-May 15. No late orders will be accepted.
- Library Help – Susan Snoots wants to add scheduled reading counts days in the library for the kids. The next Library Auxiliary meeting will be on Wednesday at 2:40pm.
- Kindergarten DVD Sales – 86 DVDs have been sold.
- Book Fair – April 14-18. Set up will be on Friday, April 11 at 2pm, take down on Friday the 18th at 3:00. Family night will be on the 17th. It was agreed to give the teachers $50.00 gift cards to the book fair, using funds that we have on account with Scholastic.
- Barnes and Noble – We will reserve December 11-13 for next year’s gift wrapping fundraiser there.
5. New Business
- Transportation and Redistricting meeting will be held at Moye on March 12 at 7:00pm.
- NetSmartz Meetings – Internet safety presentations will be given on March 26 and again on April 3 at 6:30pm. These are adult only presentations, and childcare will be provided for those who need it. More information can be obtained on netsmartz.com
- Outdoor Classroom – We awaiting approval to add to our outdoor classroom area. We would like to incorporate perennial beds, planting beds, a worm bed, and a composting bed. Kelly Cooper will make pavers with the 5th grade as their end of year project. We hope to have the area ready by Earth Day on April 22. Kathy Smitherman requested an initial amount of $1,500 to begin the project. Wendy Bione moved to approve the initial $1,500 of funding, with further funding to be considered as final costs are determined. The motion was voted on and approved by the membership. A work day is planned for March 29, all are asked to come help install our new beds.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40pm – there were 22 members in attendance.
The next PTO meeting will be held on April 8
at 12:00pm in the Intermediate Art Room.
