2006-07 Moye PTO
General Membership Meeting Minutes (Unapproved)
October 10, 2006
- Meeting called to order at 11:34am in the intermediate art room.
- Minutes from the September meeting were read and a change was noted to correct the date on the upcoming meeting to read “October 10, at 11:30am”. Kerry Scinta moved to accept the minutes with this change; the motion was seconded and passed.
- The Treasurer’s Report was reviewed. A motion to approve the report was made by Christal Rogers, it was seconded and approved. Gigi Spory will act as our Daytime Treasurer in an effort to assist Teresa Pridmore who is working during the day.
- Fall Activities Update
- Centerfield Park event on September 2 raised $67.00.
- Entertainment Books have made $6731.70. If we let the company know by December 1 that we will hold a sale again next year, we will be eligible for extra bonus points. A motion was made by Julie Jones-Kloeckner to sell entertainment books again next year. The motion was seconded and passed. Tammy Shirtz has offered to run the sale for us again next year.
- Retail Fundraisers are now being chaired by Christal Rogers. TGI Friday’s will have Moye nights on Mondays in November. We will receive 10% on purchases those nights. A request was made to send them a Moye Shirt to decorate for those nights. Suggestions to advertise this event included putting a mention in the O’Fallon Progress, putting it on our Marquee, getting it in the school newsletter, and also mentioning it during the Auction when the TGI Friday’s gift baskets are up for bid. We are looking into similar fund raisers with Chevy’s and Smokey Bones for later in the year.
- Directories have been printed and delivered. If anyone did not receive theirs, or would like to purchase one now for $2.00, contact Colleen Lucas.
- Book Fair Kerry Scinta reported a great success, earning a grand total of $14,343.94. Doughnuts with Dad alone brought in $2,650.00. The library was able to pull $1,768.00 in books. We have credits on account for gift certificates for the teachers in the spring.
- Reading Counts Elona Weilmuenster requested $250.00 for the program’s quarterly prizes. Lisa York moved to approve the funding; the motion was seconded and approved.
- Holiday Boutique will be held Thursday, November 2, from 4-8pm during the evening of teacher’s conferences. We currently have 23 vendors, and Lisa York is requesting help finding others. She also requested help with publicity and marketing for this event.
- Staff Appreciation Dinner will be held Thursday, November 2 during the evening of teacher’s conferences.
- Auction We will have Courtney Landrum from the Y98 morning show as our Celebrity Auctioneer this year. A new feature at this year’s auction will be “Mini Events” where people can sign up on a space available basis to purchase a spot at these special events. Events will include a Texas Hold ‘Em night, a Death by Chocolate night, and others to be announced. Procurement deadline is October 16. Help is still needed with auction management, please contact Elona. Tickets go on sale October 25 for $20.00 per person. Discussed getting back extra comp tickets (those that their receivers plan not to use and are willing to donate back to us) to cover tickets that the PTO normally comps out. This would enable us to more accurately plan on attendance and save us money. Decorations of bandanas and hats have been donated by Tribouts. A request for deserts was made; please bring them in disposable containers. The 5th grade teachers are donating 140 servings of desserts. Class Baskets will be on display during conferences. Help is needed with set-up beginning on Friday at 10:00am, and at 1:00pm on Saturday. Raffle tickets go on sale on October 25 along with Auction tickets; we still need help with set-up and working these sales. Flyers and phone messages will continue to go out advertising the Auction.
- Review of Old Business
- Child Care for PTO evening meetings is being looked into.
- There is still a need for more help with crossing guards. Shifts are mornings 8:15-8:45am, and afternoons 3:15-3:45pm.
- Recycling program for used ink and toner cartridges is underway. Dan Crum is heading this new program, and he is arranging for Fall and Spring contests and prizes to encourage and reward collection of used cartridges. He requested $25.00 in book awards for the 3rd place class. The membership agreed to his request. Cartridges should be marked with the teacher’s name when turned in.
- This year’s year book will have extra pages for a class collage for each grade and event collage pages at the end. We will not be able to offer a DVD version of our yearbook due to the legal implications involved. We will be allowed, however, to make DVDs of school plays and events as long as each participating child is provided a permission slip, and is given permission to be photographed. We will use this as a fundraiser and decided to sell the DVDs at $8.00 for pre-orders, and $12.00 for last minute sales.
- The next Volunteer Training Class is scheduled for 8:45-9:30am, October 24 at Marie Schaeffer.
- New Business
- Spirit Wear new items were presented.
- Christine Koehn presented two gift baskets from TGI Friday’s for the auction.
- Project Dream Boost assembly is to be held on October 27. Jennifer Hampstead requested that we provide the $400.00 to pay for this assembly. After determining that we had sufficient funds available from the entertainment book profits, Wendy Bione moved to approve funding the assembly. The motion was seconded, approved, and passed.
- PTA vs. PTO differences were discussed, and Robert Lawton made a motion to get more information about our options in this matter. Motion was seconded, and approved.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:45pm.
After the meeting, speakers Dr. Todd Koehl and Ed Grimmer presented information on the upcoming Junior High School referendum to those who wished to stay and listen.
Next meeting will be held November 14 at 7:00pm
