- Meeting called to order at 7:05pm by President Kathy Smitherman, in the intermediate art room.
- Minutes from the April meeting were read, Robert Lawton moved to accept the minutes, Kelly Cooper seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved.
- The Treasurer’s Report was presented. Stuart Smitherman moved to approve the report, it was seconded by Kelly Cooper, and the report was approved.
- The check book balance as of 5/8/07 was reviewed.
- Spending our unused funds was discussed, and the prospect of purchasing risers for the school at a cost of approximately $10,616 was analyzed. Julie Jones-Kloeckner moved to vote on purchasing the risers, and to use our carryover funds, if necessary, to cover the total amount. The vote passed and the risers will be purchased for the school.
- Other items discussed for funding next year included: A second DVD camera for the school and PTO use; KIP registration funding; a possible college scholarship program. These items may be looked into next year.
- Committee Reports
- Spring Fling – Kelly Cooper gave an overview of the results of the event. It was an overwhelming success, with 680 armbands sold this year, 100 more than last year! A decision was made to make armbands available to children who needed assistance this year. 25 children were identified by the school, and 15 of them took advantage of this opportunity. We received huge amounts of thanks and gratitude on behalf of the families that this helped, and we plan to continue this aid again in upcoming Spring Flings.
- Book Fair – Wendy Bione reported on the spring buy-one-get-one-free Scholastic Book Fair. They had $10,112 in sales, teachers were given $100 book credit certificates, and the library took $3,400 in books. We have a balance of $583.27 in book credits for next year.
- Staff Appreciation- Luncheon was held on May 3 and went very well. The food was enjoyed, and the staff loved the free massages.
- Old Business
- 501c3 Update – Application for incorporation will be filed, with the cost being evenly divided between the 5 participating schools, at $180.00 each. Each school can file for their own tax exempt number. This process takes 6-8 weeks and Kathy and Tammy will work on this for Moye over the summer. We do not have to have the same by-laws the other schools for state tax exemption.
- Bylaws – Changes to the current bylaws were discussed and addressed. A vote to make the proposed changes was placed on the election ballot, and when the vote was taken, the approval to change the bylaws passed. The changes and updated bylaws will be placed on the PTO website.
- Tutoring Program – Risa McKay gave a brief update on the program. Checks were distributed to those who led the program this year. There were 5 leaders, and they each received $190. The 25 children who did the tutoring were recognized and thanked with certificates of appreciation. And a small end of year party was thrown by Tracy Gray.
- Year in Review
- Tanya Scherschel gave an end of year review on each committee and its accomplishments.
- Kathy Smitherman went over where we spent our money this year.
- Mrs. Burns announced that the mats for the swings and slides are here. They will be installed over the summer. She also noted that she is still looking into getting the benches for the front of the school, and hopes to have them in place for next year. The staff is holding their annual volunteer breakfast tomorrow morning, May 9, from 7:74-8:30am. She expressed her thanks for all of the PTO’s hard work this year, and presented a plaque recognizing the 2006-07 PTO board.
- New Business
- Kelly West reminded us that registration for the KIP program will take place May 14 and 15.
- Julie Jones-Kloeckner announced that the theme for next year’s auction will be “Las Vegas Nights”.
- Robert Lawton proposed a vote to put $5,000 into a CD for 9 months to 1 year to cover the costs for our playground upgrade next year. Crystal Rogers seconded the motion to vote. The vote was taken, and was affirmative. The CD will be purchased.
- Committee chairs were reminded to turn in their folders.
